Speaking Up For Palestine - Stephen Sizer Speaking Tour

Voices From Palestine: Speaking Up For Palestine

Event Location: Balmain Uniting Church
344 Darling Street, Balmain 5:30pm on 18 MarchContact: events4peace@gmail.com

For the past 51 years there has been talk of a two state solution, for Palestine and Israel. However, Palestinians in the West Bank, continue to live under military law, with limited self-autonomy.

Jews, Christians, Muslims and people of conscience have challenged the reality of the military occupation by Israel of Palestine, at great cost.

Come and hear two people's experience of the cost of speaking up for Palestine.

Guest speaker: Rev Dr Stephen Sizer
Stephen is the director of Peacemaker Trust, a registered charity dedicated to peacemaking, especially where minorities are persecuted, where justice is denied, human rights are suppressed or reconciliation is needed.

Stephen was ordained in 1983.  For 35 years Stephen pastored three Anglican churches in the UK. He is an author, Bible teacher and trainer, and travels extensively in the Middle Easet and Africa.

Sizer is one of Britain's leading critics of Christian Zionism

He was awarded a PhD in 2004.  His PhD was titled, Christian Zionism: Road Map to Armageddon, and identified constructive and destructive aspects of Christian Zionism. His PhD was published as a book in 2005.

Susan Wahhab
Susan is the managing director of Winner Partnership, a Sydney based financial services practice. Susan was born in Jerusalem and lived the first 17 years of her life in Ramallah before migrating to Australia in the late 1980s.

It took Susan 30 years in Australia before she had the courage to share her experience of growing up in Israeli occupied Palestine in her finance book Money Intelligence

As a Palestinian and Christian she believes that the only path to peace is for Jews, Muslims and Christians cross the divide and form friendships with each other.

Aims of this blog

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is one of the most significant conflicts of our era. Not in terms of loss of human lives (the conflict in Syria has lost more human beings from conflict in recent years). It is significant because of the amount of daily political and media exposure it receives in western countries. It is significant for those who have loved ones (regardless from what background) living in the region. It is significant for those who seek to ensure the international community upholds principles that are fair and just to all parties.

This blog has been created to promote events that involve speakers discussing the situation of Palestine and Israel.

This blog is an attempt to show that peace is possible for Palestinians, Palestinian-Israelis and Jewish-Israelis. The hope is that each community will be able to be brave and fearless in addressing wrongs committed in the past, and to work towards building a community for all in the region.

For other blogs by this author, please see Palestine Israel Solutions, Israel Palestine Diary, Heroes and Jewish Peace Activists,

Examples of the author's reflection on the conflict are History of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, The Use of Force by the IDF: Failure to account and The Promise by Peter Kosminsky.

The author's thesis is 'Empathising With the Enemy:Transformation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict by overcoming psychological and structural obstacles'.
